God left it up to us in the beginning, WE failed. He then died for us on a cross, was buried, and then resurrected. We can now make it because of His sacrifice and His help. We can share in the inheritance by spiritually dying to ourselves by turning from sin, by sharing a spiritual burial with Christ in the form of baptism under water, and finally sharing in His resurrection and having eternal life by receiving the Holy Spirit. This is the Gospel of Christ Jesus. God said knew us before the world began. This indicates a history, and therefore this life *MAY* very well be a 2nd (or even 3rd chance) rather than burning us in Hell for something we did prior to the Earth being created.
