The Bridge
October 14th, 2007I’d like to denounce the following clip taken from the short movie Most as an example of corny Christian media (after all, I first discovered it on GodTube), but I can’t. The ‘parable’ of the bridge-master and his son is one of those over-used illustrations popping up in pulpits all over the world, but after hearing it a thousand times and telling myself that it is cheesy, I could not hold back the tears watching this clip (go on, call me lame):
I think I’ll be writing on the following subject more in the near future, but for now, I’ll just say is that what I appreciate most out of this illustration is that it focuses on the motivating passion of God (the father in the story) to save us from destruction and not to condemn us to destruction, as some would preach.
Here’s a t-shirt that you might like to purchase from http://www.cafepress.com/exchristian
Printed on the t-shirt is the following text:
God had to kill himself to appease himself so that he would not have to roast us (His beloved creations) alive for eternity. He loves us more than we can comprehend but, if we don’t love him back, He will send us to Hell to suffer forever and ever. That really is AMAZING GRACE!

That’s so clever, David. I bet God’s thinking to himself right now ‘Sheez, I’ve never seen it LIKE THAT before. Let’s call this whole thing off’.

Its an important perspective to cover. God left it up to us in the beginning, WE failed. He then died for us on a cross, was buried, and then resurrected. We can now make it because of His sacrifice and His help. We can share in the inheritance by spiritually dying to ourselves by turning from sin, by sharing a spiritual burial with Christ in the form of baptism under water, and finally sharing in His resurrection and having eternal life by receiving the Holy Spirit. This is the Gospel of Christ Jesus. God said knew us before the world began. This indicates a history, and therefore this life *MAY* very well be a 2nd (or even 3rd chance) rather than burning us in Hell for something we did prior to the Earth being created. Either way, what matters is the here and now. God said we wll have no excuses on the day of Judgement.
